If it wasn't for the heinous acts of terrorism committed by Irgun and Lehi, the UK would not have put down their mandate and there would be no ethno supremacist apartheid state on the soil of Palestine.
In 1922 the League of Nations (predecessor of the UN) tasked the UK to support the establishment of a "national home for the Jewish people", without prejudicing the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine.
In 1944 Menachem Begin became the leader of the terrorist group "Irgun" and proclaimed a revolt against the British mandatory government followed by the bombing of the Immigration Department, Tax Offices, attacks on police stations, several acts of terrorism abroad, the bombing of the King David Hotel and the assassination of UN mediator Count Folke Bernadotte.
In 1947 the UK decided that it was to costly for them to maintain the mandate and handed the problem to the newly founded United Nations.
In 1948 the provisional government proclaimed a state of Israel and got recognized by the UN.
In 1973 Menachem Begin founded the Likud party
In 1977 Menachem Begin became the 6th Prime Minister of Israel and declared that "between the [Mediterranean] Sea and the Jordan River there shall only be Israeli sovereignty".
