Israel very much reminds me of the movie "The Good Son" (1993).

After the death of his mother, Mark gets to live with his aunt and her son Henry.

Henry turns out to be a psychopath who killed his little brother, tries to kill his cousin Connie but his mother still favors him.

In the end he tries to kill both Mark and his mother and ends up hanging over a cliff holding on to the hand of his mother with Mark holding on to her other hand.

She can only save one of them and she makes the right choice.
